Bouton that displays the smallest presynaptic swellings. The terminals bearing them are very long and the most elaborate of all axon terminal types. In the larva, these boutons contain glutamate and octopamine; in the adult some type II boutons contain the latter. (Johansen et al., 1989, Rivlin et al., 2004, Budnik, 1996, Hoang and Chiba, 2001)
